About CAPITAL. Intervention within the framework of the DISPLACED INFORMATION project:
"Capital" was the title of the work I created as part of the public intervention "Displaced Information", (also organized and produced by Alejandro González and myself, in collaboration with other artists). It consisted of organizing all the contents of my room, furniture and personal belongings on a scaffolding structure that I placed in Villalón Park in front of UNESCO, in Vedado, Havana, Cuba. The work involved a double translation. On the one hand, it proposed a symbolic representation of Cuban reality in the sense of the weakness of its infrastructure and the material deterioration to which the capital of Havana has been subjected throughout its history.
On the one hand, it underlined a demand, through the intention of airing my personal reality by exposing the authentic material resources that I had to develop myself, aware of belonging to a generation destined to forget its pretensions in the art world, due to the institutional policies that were beginning to be put into practice, referring to the unequal distribution of resources and possibilities.
The entire exhibition “Displaced Information” was conceived as a strategy of resistance to the exclusion of Cuban cultural institutions and their lack of acceptance of new exhibition proposals. Given the impossibility of accessing official circuits and the development needs of a series of proposals by Cuban artists who graduated from the main art schools in the country, who did not have a place in the cultural programs of these institutions.
About the curatorial project DISPLACED INFORMATION:
Curatorship and production: Yeny Casanueva and Alejandro González
DISPLACED INFORMATION was a project carried out in Villalón Park in front of the UNESCO Offices in Vedado, Havana, Cuba. This project arose as an alternative to the impossibility of accessing official exhibition circuits and as a demand for the development needs of a series of proposals by Cuban artists graduated from the main art schools in the country, which had no place in the cultural programs of said institutions.
